The legalities of getting married or joining in civil union in NZ

You have decided to get married in New Zealand, but you aren’t sure where to start?  The Births, Deaths and Marriages website is a great place to begin.  It provides you with all of the details about how to apply for your marriage or civil union licence.

https://www.govt.nz/browse/family-and-whanau/getting-married/get-a-marriage-licence/

Your licence will cost you $150, and you can complete the process online.  No need to go into the Courts.  I will complete the process with Births, Deaths, and Marriages after the ceremony is finished.

It’s important to know that your officiant/celebrant must be registered with the Department of Internal Affairs (Births, Deaths and Marriages).
